There are times in life that because of unwelcome circumstances someone can produce works that he couldn’t have done otherwise. And that’s exactly what happens here. Most of the paintings you will see below is a product of such circumstances – because I have to earn money to eat. Truly, it’s a blessing in disguise, since I am forced to develop my talent in the process. I like painting but not in a way that I have to paint and paint the whole day like crazy like what I did in the past few weeks just to have some paintings to sell. But you know what? I love the result. Unlike before, I am now determine to sell my paintings than just keep them with me. I have to share them to others, which will benefit me too .I uploaded also these paintings to my website in a Gallery format Kindly visit my Art Gallery, “ELMOS Art Gallery”: http://www.wix.com/anselmomalugao/elmosartgallery.. What a crazy situation -- I almost have been dead painting this coconut tree above. I really didn’t have money at that time, that was last year, 2011. The whole day I was painting like mad literally without eating, since there was nothing to eat also. At the end of the day I was like floating on air already. Then, I was sick and I thought I will die, because I was alone and no money at all. But thanks to God, I was saved, I am still alive today, making big plans for the future. The truth, is that, there is a way in situation.
I was exhausted with color green in this work that I thought I couldn’t finish this painting anymore. So what I did I tried many times to apply different color instead, until I was destroying some parts of the painting already, which saddened me. When I was about to decide it was a futile attempt to make good out of the painting, I just brushed and brushed paints without thinking what will happen, then with utter frustration, I stopped, believing the painting was ruined already. As I sat staring on what I have done, I couldn’t believe, the color seemed to blend well with the rest of the paining. I didn’t dare touch it again.
“Bear Fruit” is my first Huge painting ( 20 x 16 inches)..
This painting above is my second painting, in still larger canvas ( 20 x 20 inches). The previous one and this one, Abundance, was painted in a span of half a year apart, but still the condition is almost the same, I have no money, really nothing. You may wonder why? It is because, I don’t usually paint when I am well off,.for I want to be a Motivational Lecturer and a Life-Coach in profession. But, since it didn’t happen yet and I was drained out of cash, I found no choice but paint hoping to earn something.
In this painting, I experimented with mixed mediums: Oil Pastel, Acrylic Paint, and Oil Paint, Like all my paintings, I love this painting. If I have money at this time, most likely, I will just hang this one by the wall and look at it for the joy of my spirit.
Before, I tend to opt for dark colors, now, however, I can already manage to blend colors with lighter tone than I used to.
How many times I have been painting, and every time I would finish something I just couldn’t believe that I am the one who have done it. And that is even with simple paintings that I have accomplished. And how much more the paintings you have seen above. Someone told me to retouch it. I didn’t listen, I might damage it. I am through with it. I am the artist. I said it’s done so that’s it.
Title: Apple
Medium: Oil paint on canvas
Size: 11 x 14 inches
Price: Php 1,000.00
I never knew that painting in oil is sometimes a pain in the neck. This one above, Apple, took many days to dry. I almost have ruined this one.
The eyes can’t almost see the effect of oil paint on the canvas, but the camera can. The light shines brightly on the surface that gives beauty to the painting.
Title: Be Free as a Bird
Medium: Acrylic on watercolor paper
Size: 12 x 17 inches
Price: Php 1,000.00
I used watercolor paper in this painting. No more canvas. I like painting also on paper. The effect is also unique and beautiful. In this painting, I mounted the painting on an illustration board to enhance the beauty of the artwork.
This is a loose painting. I don’t like so much details, it will take much time. Concerning colors, I am not so conscious on the use of proper color. For me any color will do, as long as it looks not so bad to my eyes. Although this is my idea of painting, but I am proud of my accomplishments. This helps me a lot n marketing my artwork, since I am shy showing off my work to others.

I am so excited with this painting. Mr. Karating, one of the well-known painters here in the Philippines has seen this one. He admire this one so much, because, as he said there is a tension in it. This conversion happened with the presence of the owner of Sining Kamalig Art Gallery, Mr. Balboa, at Gateway Cubao. When Mr. Balboa overheard this, he said, you know, I have never heard Mr. Karating praising a students work like what he did to your piece. For me the emotion was overwhelming. Mr. Karating then advice me to focus on figure painting, I might be good at it, if I can retain the same rhythm. The only problem before, is that, I am not yet focus on painting, but now, however, I am beginning to find its relevance into my life. Not only that I will be doing Inspirational Lectures, writing, and Life-Coaching, but painting as well. Another talent that is fast showing up is singing. Marketing Artwork is not easily when you are just beginning in this business. Painting is not a commodity that everybody likely to buy. Common folks prefer to go for food and clothing rather than something for the eyes. This is the reason why I practice singing along noisy highways where nobody can overhear my voice. I think the result is positive. If I can have audience as a singer then I can also promote my other services at the same time. It will really be great! I am so excited.
Now, back to my painting above. You know what? Prof. Fernando B. Sena one of the greatest painters here and, in fact, known as the “Father of Art workshops” has seen this one, since I have done this painting in his Art workshop at George Vargas Museum. Many, many thanks to him. Without his help, I could never be painting like this. Thanks Professor.
Title: The Good Land
Medium: Acrylic on canvas

Oh! I love this painting. This is my own composition. I am now studying on how to create a three dimension painting. For me, I think it will take a pretty long time to teach myself how to do it right. I am drawn to this kind painting since a friendly man whom I met while I was peddling my artworks on the streets of Quezon City seriously criticized my work for being flat. I likes talking to me for he said I have passion for my art, no matter what it is. You might be famous soon, when you are dead already. Oh! I don’t like that one to happen to me, I retorted. Well, as I think it over and over again he might have a reason. One way of being successful is to listen to people, go with the trend, know what’s saleable. And because I am humble enough, I got his good points. So, I will learning a lot of things in paintings and will be developing my other talents and share them to the world. I am so excited with this idea.
But, mind you, I will not stop creating flat paintings there’s something about them, because they have their own place in our hearts and in the art world.

Note: The painting has not been photographed properly. I took this photo inside my room. The effect of the light is not good. There are streaks of light that should not have been there. I will upload a better one soon. If I can manage it.
The model on this painting is a black and white photo. No preliminary pencil sketches. I directly starts the composition by applying paints on the canvas. My way of painting is a trial and error. So, mistakes are plenty requiring patience. Anyway, I am learning to incorporate them into my life -- one of the ingredients towards success..
This is a loose painting. There might be strokes of paints that conventionally should not be there or might have been omitted. But if these inconsistencies or flaws of the painting offer a different prospective and feeling to the viewer then I let them stay as they are. And I don’t mind if art critiques will say I am stupid and doesn’t know how to paint at all, I am absolutely fine with it. I just want to present my works in a different manner, “a carefree manner of painting.”
If I can afford already, I will be painting in various styles that will cater different kinds of people.
Before, I used to paint Spontaneously -- a kind of painting where the artist doesn’t have to rely heavily on the imagination in the creating process of his work . All is left to what we usually label as chance. In this manner, what I feel while at work is that the heart is the mean driving force that shapes the outcome..
A truly Spontaneous way of painting is a relaxing manner of painting, since there’s no need to force the mind to focus on a specific outcome. The book that I wrote, entitled “from Darkness to the Light ,” which is still awaiting publication, has let me discovered that I can create images by just letting my hand to glide playfully and absent-mindedly on a surface of a paper. Soon, I will feature them here.
Please! Patronize my paintings so I can support my other projects. Donation is also very much appreciated. You can send your donation through my Gcash account 09064303379. Name: Anselmo Malugao. Address: Quezon City. Have a good day! Thanks for viewing my site.
